Evaluation Question 2

Evaluation Activity 1

Posture

The posture of the two photos i have selected are very similar. The main difference of course is that mine doesn't look straight at the camera. However apart form that I think they are very similar, both photos are dominated by the hair and the clean crisp make up used.

Angles

The angles used are different, mine is slanted and she is looking at a 90 degree angle. Where on the real music magazine she is looking directly into the camera. Making the audience feel like you know this character because she is looking at you, engaging you, where as mine is looking away, giving off the message she is shying away from the camera and the fame. Thinking back now and also viewing other real music magazines, they all look directly into the camera. I should of used a picture which looks into the camera.

Shot types

The shot types between the two photos are very similar, they are both close ups/medium shots. The photos are from the shoulders up, really reflecting the make up, eyes and the extravagant hair of both pictures. I think taking the picture in this style gives a sense of mystery letting the audience guess what this character is like, especially by the way they dress.

Lighting

The lighting of the two photos are very similar, they both have a lot of light penetrated at the face. Really reflecting the beautiful and extravagant make up of both photos. Another similarity is that in the background, half and half are light and dark. Giving it a traditional and sophisticated look which may reflect the characters? The only difference I can identify in terms of lighting is the clothes, the clothes on my model are light and dark but mainly lit up, on the other hand the professional music magazine has very little light reflected onto the clothes, maybe they wanted to focus on the beautifully crafted make up.

The costume

The costume on both photos are very minimal, with the clothes being plain, making sure they do not draw any attention away from the face and the make up of the two characters. The costume on my character is very reserved, it is a traditional fur coat giving the sense the artist is sophisticated and classy. On the magazines image however you can hardly see the characters costume. Its a well detailed coat with beautiful patterns matching the background very well.

Expression

The similarities on the two photos are very plain and almost dull. There is hardly any emotion, maybe on mine my model looks fairly sad, but apart from that she looks quite hidden away and mysterious, letting the audience guess and wander what my model is truly about! My model is also looking away from the camera, giving the impression that she is quite a shy character and doesn't like the stardom and fame and that she easily shys away from the camera The expression on La Roux' s face is very emotional, and almost makes the audience feel sorry and confused to why La Roux looks so upset? La Roux's sad expression is enforced by the very clever tear drop. The tear drop has obviously been made, possibly on Photoshop. The tear drop has a beautiful and also mysterious shine to it, this shine on the tear drop pulls the audience's attention straight to it. simply because it stands out on the white face of La Roux and the black background. NME obviously wanted to make the tear drop a vocal point of the front page, by giving it that beautiful shine to it, there are many reasons for this. La Roux could be currently depressed about something. But the cover line next to it really gives the target audience the answer, it states "La Roux I'm a whole new kind of pop star", this cover line gives the impression to the audience that maybe she misses her past and her previous pop star lifestyle.

Hair

In my opinion I think there are similarities in the two pictures when it comes down to hair. Of course La Roux's is amazing and beautifully extravagant, because they have professional hairdressers, but I think the hair in the two images most certainly dominate the pictures. La Roux has the waxed up quiff which she is well known for, it is perfectly straight with no rough edges. However mine is more rock star, mine is more I don't care if it is messed up as long as I'm having a good time! Which almost certainly would sum up the singer in question. All in all i definitely think the hair of the singers sum up how they are and their individual personality's!
